( week 5 ) friday night, heather

[before chie turns in for the night—she's got guests tonight, she doesn't want to stay out too late—she goes to check on the people she still feels like she can trust. those souls are few and far between these days.

heather will hear a knock on her door, followed by chie's voice, which is softer than usual.]

Hey... you okay?

...I'm sorry.

[chie is usually a hugger, but... heather's current disposition tells her that might not be the best choice. she'll instead try to reach out to touch the other girl's shoulder, but she does it slowly—if heather shows any sign of recoiling, she'll withdraw her hand.]

[ungodly]

Don't worry about it. It'll be over soon, right? We're probably.. all gonna die.

[ she doesn't object to chie's touch to her shoulder. if anything, it's nice for someone to touch her now — because she was starting to feel very numb, very indifferent to the world. why go to the trial when she knew it'd just end in something terrible? ]

You don't deserve this, Chie. You should be a normal girl, living a normal life right now.

[wristbands]

None of us deserve this. We never did. We just drew the unluckiest lots ever.

[when heather does not back away, chie settles her grip, simultaneously firm yet gentle. if she can help ground her friend, she'll have done some good in this realm where good no longer exists.]
